Our pilot, Grant, was awesome and did a fantastic narration. We did the Kohala-Hamakua coast tour which was an hour. I cannot remember the name of the blonde lady that checked us in nor the Texan but they were both very friendly just like most Hawaiians. We "Yelped" for another company and found Sunshine with a heliport very close to our hotel, Fairmont Orchid, which is on the northwest coast of Hawaii. When booking, I would ask about the pilot interaction, and being able to ask questions via a 2 way radio. We had originally booked with Blue Hawaii Helicopters, based on the Tripadvisor reviews, but had to cancel due to a glitch in our reservation. We paid $455 for my wife and I, as we got a 2 for 1 last min special. A ' Sorry folks, no whales today' would have been nice. But again, no description as to why we flew over the water all of a sudden, and then back inland. We did not, as the lava was not flowing on that particular day which is fine, but the pilot did not say anything like 'sorry folks no lava today' so it left me wondering for the duration of the trip, did we skip the lava? Additionally at one point he flew out over the water, and he was looking really hard, I assume he was trying to spot a whale. IE When we flew over the east rift zone where the Lava meets the Ocean I expected to see steam plumes, lava etc. The pilot did not explain what he was doing either. Just listening to his monotone voice for 2 hrs. They also do not offer 2 way communication with the pilot, so you do not even have the chance to ask questions, which would have been a huge bonus. No history, no descriptions, just on the left you will see xyz, on the right you will see ABC. The sights were amazing, saw many things which could only be seen from the air. Took a recent 2 hr island trip which departs near the Hapuna Beach Prince.
